The Monticello Fire Department is staffed by 35 volunteer firefighters who are notified by pagers to respond to alarms 24 hours a day. The administrative staff includes a volunteer chief (Don McCarthy) and assistant chief (Mike Wink).

The department is dedicated to saving lives and property and takes pride in the service it provides to the 3,607 in the City of Monticello and the thousands of others that it serves in adjacent townships. Firefighters perform duties that involve fire suppression, HAZMAT first response, extrications, water rescue/recovery, search and rescue, fire inspections, and fire prevention activities for school children.
