RESOLUTION #10-77
Resolution to appoint Britt Smith as Interim Chief of Police, with no change in pay until the job description and reporting is looked into.
WHEREAS, the Police Chief has submitted his written resignation to the Mayor and City Council, and the City Council has accepted that resignation, and
WHEREAS, the Mayor has proposed the immediate appointment of Sergeant Britt Smith as Interim Chief of Police, and
WHEREAS, The Council has considered the Mayor’s recommendation that Sergeant Britt Smith be appointed as Interim Chief of Police, and finds that said appointment is in the best interests of the City, and
WHEREAS, in light of the limited time on which to consider and make this appointment, the Council directs that a meeting of a committee of three Council Members and the Mayor be organized to consider the impact the appointment of Sgt. Smith as Interim Chief has on his job duties, compensation, and reporting responsibilities, said committee to report back to the City Council with their recommendations at the next City Council meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Monticello, Iowa does hereby ratify the appointment of Sergeant Britt Smith as Interim Chief of Police, effective immediately, with the understanding that a committee of three Council Members, the Mayor, the City Administrator, and the Interim Chief shall meet to consider the impact the appointment of Sgt. Smith as Interim Chief on his job duties, compensation, and reporting responsibilities, between tonight and the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting, and to report back to the full City Council with recommendations at the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting.
