Resolution 14-77

The City of Monticello, Iowa

IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA

RESOLUTION #14-77

Resolution to approve paying expenses associated with handicapped entry access on SW doors to Monticello Senior Center.

WHEREAS, the Monticello Senior Center is located at the old “John McDonald Hospital” building owned by Joel and Leslie Althoff, and

WHEREAS, the Monticello Senior Center is loosely affiliated with the City, in that the City made arrangements for the Center to be located at the current facility, paid for initial upgrades and improvements, and supports senior meals served at that location, and

WHEREAS, the Senior Dining employee, who also oversees the Senior Center along with users of the facility, have requested that the City Council pay for the installation of handicapped entry devices on the doors located at the SW Corner of the building, same being the primary entry point for the senior citizens, and

WHEREAS, the cost of the handicapped entry devices is estimated to be in the neighborhood of $3,000, however, a specific bid has not been obtained, and

WHEREAS, after discussion, the Council finds, in light of the fact that the City has no rental or utility obligations at the Center, that the expenditure of $3,000 towards the handicapped entry devices is appropriate and in the best interests of the City.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Monticello, Iowa does hereby approve of an expenditure not to exceed $3,000 in total related to the purchase and installation of handicapped entry devices on the SW doors to the Monticello Senior Center and directs the City Administrator to work with the Senior Dining representatives and the building owner on this project.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name and caused the Great Seal of the City of Monticello, Iowa to be affixed hereto. Done this 21st day of July, 2014.

Dena Himes, Mayor
