IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION #12-76
Resolution approving building permit for Rod and Sarah Hanssen in regard to proposal to put steel siding on west exterior wall of Styles-N-Smiles building located at 301 East First Street
with the understanding that they choose a neutral color for the steel.
WHEREAS, Rod and Sarah Hanssen, owners of the downtown commercial building located at 301 East 1st Street, have proposed to install steel siding to the exterior of the building as a remedy for the failing and heavy maintenance stucco exterior that presently exists, and
WHEREAS, the property at 301 East First Street is located within the “Fire Zone” as defined by the Code of Ordinances, and for that reason the Council is required to review and consider the issuance of a permit, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that the proposed siding would meet the requirements of the Fire Zone chapter, Chapter 147, so the only real issue for the Council to consider is whether or not steel siding on the west side of the building in the downtown district is consistent with the desires of the Council and the Code of Ordinances, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that the application of steel as proposed over the failing stucco exterior is appropriate and not inconsistent with the downtown design standards, specifically noting that this decision is based upon the fact that the west side of this building faces a side street, and not the main downtown street, 1st Street.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Monticello, Iowa does hereby authorize the issuance of a permit as requested by the Hanssens to allow for the installation of steel siding to the west side of the building at 301 E. 1st Street as proposed, with the understanding that they choose a neutral color for the steel.
