The City of Monticello, Iowa
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION #14-42
Resolution to approve entry into Agreement with Iowa State University Extension to perform a Monticello Market Analysis / Feasibility Study for use in negotiation with hotel chain to locate in Monticello.
WHEREAS, The City Council finds that it should be proactive in promoting Monticello and that a hotel would be a desirable amenity in the community, and
WHEREAS, The City Administrator, Councilman Yeoman, and a local businessman met with a representative on an Iowa hotel chain, Boulders Inn and Suites, in regard to the possibility of a Boulders being sited in Monticello, and
WHEREAS, During those discussions it became clear that before Boulders, or any other desirable hotel chain would seriously consider Monticello, that a Feasibility / Market Study would need to be prepared, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that the City has an Economic Development Fund that could be utilized for the purpose of paying for a Feasibility / Market Study and that the use of those funds for this purpose would be a wise and useful investment, and
WHEREAS, The City Administrator advises that ISU Extension is likely the most reasonably priced provider of said services and has prepared feasibility / market studies utilized by Boulders in the past and their representative indicated that the ISU study would definitely meet their needs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Monticello, Iowa does hereby authorize use of the City Economic Development Fund to pay for the cost of a Monticello Hotel Feasibility / Market Study in an amount not to exceed $6,000, and authorizes the City Administrator to make arrangements with ISU Extension to perform said service for the City of Monticello.
