Approving Monticello Police Department to
purchase DataPilot Software
WHEREAS, the City of Monticello City Council supports the Monticello Police Department to purchase DataPilot software, to be used by the Joint Law Enforcement Intelligence Group (Monticello Police Department, Anamosa Police Department, Cascade Police Department, Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Jones County Attorney’s Office.), and
WHEREAS, the Monticello Police Department and has evaluating their system and found the capabilities to be extremely beneficial to their department. Whether analyzing devices for evidence of fraud, abuse, or narcotics, we as local law enforcement depend on larger agencies or contracting with outside organizations to assist with the processing and evaluation of all types of electronic devices from cell phones to tablets and gaming devices. The evidence contained in these electronic devices can make or break an investigation and even open the door to more significant offenses. With the larger agencies being backlogged with processing devices and the return can take weeks and months, and
WHEREAS. the Monticello Police Department would purchase the DataPilot Software, in the amount of $6.370.00. The Anamosa Police Department, Cascade Police Department, Jones County Sheriff’s Office agreeing to pay one-fourth of the cost of the software to the Monticello Police Department, each paying $1,592.50, and
WHEREAS, the software does have a $2,000 per year renewal fee that will also be split between the 4 participating agencies, for a total of $500 per year for each agency, and
WHEREAS, the Jones County Attorney’s Office has agreed to purchase the laptop computer at a price of $2,000 to run the software and would and utilize this software, and
WHEREAS, the Council finds that the purchase of the DataPilot Software is in the best interests of the City of Monticello and the Monticello Police Department and should, therefore, be approved.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Monticello, Iowa does hereby approve the purchase of DataPilot Software in the amount of $6,370.00, with , the Anamosa Police Department, Cascade Police Department and Jones County Sheriff’s Office reimbursing the City for their share as stated above.
