IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION #13-42
Resolution to approve hiring of non-certified candidate as Monticello Police Officer with direction to draft agreement related to academy costs..
WHEREAS, The City Police Department is currently operating with one full-time opening, and
WHEREAS, The Chief has performed an extensive search for a new officer and has conducted interviews and background checks, and
WHEREAS, The Chief has interviewed both certified and non-certified candidates and has determined that the candidate that best fits our departmental needs and has the best personality for a small community department is non-certified, and
WHEREAS, The Chief recommends that the Council approve the hiring of a non-certified officer with the understanding that an agreement will be drafted, as has occurred in the past, wherein said candidate agrees to reimburse the City for the costs of certification should he not fulfill his obligations under the agreement, and
WHEREAS, The aforementioned agreement will be prepared and presented for approval at the City Council meeting of May 20th, after which the candidate would be hired, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds it appropriate to follow the recommendation of the Police Chief and authorizing him to hire and enter into an agreement with the non-certified officer, the Council having an opportunity to approve the agreement at the Council meeting of May 20th.
NOW, THEREFORE, The Council does hereby authorizes the hiring of a non-certified police officer with the understanding and agreement that said officer will enter into an agreeable reimbursement agreement with the City of Monticello, same to be considered for approval by the Council at the May 20th regular council meeting.
