The City of Monticello, Iowa
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION # 11-69
Accepting and awarding bid on Asbestos Abatement Project at the Riddle Building to Environmental Management Services of Iowa, Inc., and authorizing the City Administrator to execute the agreement / contract between the contractor and the City and to execute such other documents / notices that may be required by the IDNR or other regulatory agency related thereto during the Asbestos Abatement Project.
WHEREAS, The City of Monticello has been working with Gene Riddle, the IDNR and the EPA in regard to the clean-up and redevelopment of the Riddle Inc. Industrial property site, and
WHEREAS, The EPA has completed the removal of contaminated waste from the property and the property is, therefore, ready for asbestos removal, according to an inspection and project design prepared by Ames Environmental, and
WHEREAS, The City sought bids from approximately ten (10) licensed Iowa Asbestos Companies, held a pre-bid walk through at the site, and a formal bid opening during which two (2) bids were received, to wit:
Affordable Hazards Removal, Inc. $47,628
Environmental Management Services of Iowa $26,500
and
WHEREAS, The IDNR has approved of the City awarding the bid on said asbestos abatement project to the low bidder, Environmental Management Services of Iowa, in the amount of $26,500, and
WHEREAS, The City finds that it is in the best interests of the City to continue to pursue the demolition of this property which first requires the removal of asbestos, and
WHEREAS, The City finds, based upon the IDNR’s approval of the low bidder, that awarding the bid to Environmental Mgmt. Services of Iowa is in the best interests of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Monticello, Iowa does hereby accept the bids previously mentioned herein and awards the bid and contract to remove the asbestos identified within the Ames Environmental project design and specifications related thereto, and further authorizes the City Administrator to execute the agreement/contract between the Contractor and the City and such other documents as may be necessary or required by the IDNR or other regulatory agency(ies) throughout the asbestos abatement project.
