IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION #15-38
Resolution Accepting bids for Community Building Renovation Project, and Awarding bid to G.L. Stockham & Son, authorizing the Mayor to execute agreement with G.L. Stockman and Son on behalf of the City
WHEREAS, The City of Monticello publicly advertised for bids related to the Community Building Renovation project, and
WHEREAS, Bids were received from two contractors, to wit:
G.L. Stockham & Son, Inc. $615,499 (Base)
Portzen Construction, Inc. $690,000 (Base)
– and –
WHEREAS, The Council has reviewed the specifics of the bids and finds it appropriate to accept the bids and to award the project to G.L. Stockham & Son, Inc., and
WHEREAS, Since the bid opening, the City Council and City Staff have worked with the Contractor and the Architect to find ways to reduce the overall project cost, and have determined it appropriate to modify the project as follows:
1. Delete the Base Bid Terrazzo Tile Flooring, resulting in a deduct of $61,901, same to be replaced with a flooring alternative in the price range of $9,400 to $10,000, and
2. Delete the Base Bid Shaw Entwine Carpet Tile, resulting in a deduct of $8,400, same to be replace with a flooring alternative in the price range of approximately $6,100, and
3. Delete the Base Bid related to the “finish” on the proposed window systems from “Kynar” paint to standard powder coating, resulting in a savings of $7,125, and
4. Delete the Base Bid related to Johnson Controls and use Honeywell Red Link Communication Systems in lieu thereof at a cost savings of $14,725, and
WHEREAS, The Council by the approval of this Resolution finds that the above changes, shown in paragraphs numbered 1 to 4 above, should be approved as Change Order #1, reflecting a total deduct in the total amount of $92,151, and recognizing that there will be additions to the project cost for materials needed to replace those deducted by paragraphs numbered one and two above.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Monticello, Iowa does hereby accept the bids and awards the Community Building Renovation project to G.L. Stockham & Son, Inc., in the amount of $615,499, subject to the execution of an agreement by and between the City of Monticello and Stockham, same to set out the terms of the agreement between Stockham and the City of Monticello and authorizing Mayor to execute said agreement, and further approved Change Order #1 as noted herein, reflecting a deduct of $92,151.
